Shillong, August 19: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday inaugurated the newly constructed Community Hall at Mawkynroh-Umshing, marking a significant milestone for the locality. The event was attended by community leaders, local residents, and students from St. Luke’s and Grace Academy.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the warm reception and commended the Dorbar Shnong for its initiative in bringing the project to completion. He noted that the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund (CMSDF) had played a key role in supporting institutions and villages across Meghalaya, and that its reach to Mawkynroh-Umshing has brought tangible benefits to the community.
Sangma stressed that while the CMSDF may be modest in scale, its impact on educational institutions, local development, and community-driven initiatives has been significant. He pledged continued support for the locality, particularly its youth, through the provision of sports equipment, musical instruments, and training programmes for entrepreneurs and farmers.

Encouraging the community to develop the hall as a centre for productive and positive activities, the Chief Minister said such initiatives would provide young people with avenues for growth, recreation, and skill-building. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to working closely with traditional institutions and grassroots organisations to ensure sustainable development in the region.
Concluding his address, Sangma praised the dedication of the Mawkynroh-Umshing community and expressed happiness at being part of the project. The programme also featured a cultural performance by children from St. Luke’s and Grace Academy, who sang “Ri Lum” to warm applause from the gathering.
