Shillong, May 8: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday held a video conferencing with deputy commissioners of 10 districts and reviewed the implementation of various projects.

The deputy commissioner of South West Garo Hills did not participate in the video conferencing as the model code of conduct is in place in view of the bye election to the Ampati seat slated for May 28.

The objective of the video conference with the DCs was to improve the delivery mechanism in the state.

Conrad said that the idea of interacting with the DCs was to have continuous interaction with the district administrations directly from the cabinet level and at the level of the chief minister so that a lot of issues can be solved by using technology.

“Monitoring of implementation will improve if we can directly interact with the DCs,” he said

According to the Chief Minister, at least once a month there should be a video conferencing between the cabinet along with the chief secretary and deputy commissioners of all the districts.

During the interaction, the Chief Minister also sought to know the impact of hail storm and cyclone in some areas including in East Garo Hills district and whether the beneficiaries received the relief funds or not.

The chief minister also briefed the deputy commissioners about the upcoming visit of ministers to their respective districts to review the implementation of various schemes and programmes of the government.

The visit will start from this quarter.

On April 13, the Chief Minister had informed the State Assembly that cabinet ministers would visit all the eleven districts once in every three months to review the implementation of various schemes.

Every minister will visit all the eleven districts on a rotation basis, every three months and review the implementation of various government schemes.

The ministers will also conduct public hearings to discuss and understand problems being faced by the people in their respective areas and districts.
