CM visits NEIGRIHMS, meets Agnes and Amita in ICU

Shillong, Nov 13: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma went and see critically injured social activist, Agnes Kharshiing and her colleague, Amita Sanma at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) Mawdiangdiang on Tuesday night.
Agnes and Amita were brutally attacked allegedly by a group of mafias at Sohshrieh village in East Jaiñtia Hills district on November 8.

The Chief Minister arrived at around 9.45pm and with advice from director NEIGRIHMS, he was taken into the ICU and accompanied by Agnes’s brothers, John Kharshiing, Francis Kharshiing, and her son. Officials from NEIGRIHMS accompanied the Chief Minister.

“The Chief Minister spoke briefly to Agnes and she responded. He assured all support to the family of both the victims,” sources said.

Sources also said that Dr P Bhattacharya, HOD, Anesthesiology Critical Care, and others briefed the Chief Minister about the treatment being provided to both the victims and told him that it was timely arrival at NEIGRIHMS and the preparedness that has resulted upto today’s progress especially as Agnes arrived with no pulse on November 8.

“Agnes has regained partial consciousness, but continues to remain critical and still on ventilator, while Amita is slowly recovering,” sources added.

The CM also spent time with Amita Sangma and discussed with NEIGRIMS officials other matters especially security arrangements at NEIGRIHMS.

Meanwhile visitors continue to flood NEIGRIHMS to express their solidarity with the victims and their family members.

On Tuesday, East Shillong MLA, Ampareen Lyngdoh, JM Pariat, ex-Home Minister, Neil Antonio War, MDC and EM of KHADC, PJ Hanaman Pyngrope ex-DGP, Phrang Roy, IAS (Retd) and Chairman NESFAS, Toki Blah, IAS (Retd) visited the hospital.
