Shillong, May 24:Â Congress leader and former chief minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday expressed confidence that the party will come back to power in the state.
“If we go by the records of the state in the past, we know what is going to happen in the days to come,†Mukul said while reacting to a query on whether the Congress will be able to form the government after the upcoming May 28 Ampati bye-election.
Referring to the political trend in Meghalaya, he said, “We know the inherent challenges of having stability in this kind of situation where you have many parties cobble up to form the coalition government.â€
He said, in 2008 also they (other parties) have formed the government but why did it fall because they were not competent to run and cannot create that cohesive situation.
“But from 2009 onwards, we formed the government and we maintained it inspite of challenges that we confronted in maintaining stability, and we withstood those challenges,†he added.
The former chief minister also recalled on the attempts made to topple the government in every session. “All available ways and means were resorted to but we withstood the whole challenges and insulate from the usual toppling that resulted in instability. We have demonstrated our capability in the state that we are not just able to provide a stable government but capable of delivering,†he stated.
Mukul further claimed that the Congress have delivered and transformed the face of the state and create positive perception about Meghalaya across the nation. The potentiality of the state and the result of growth in the state is unmatched with the growth rate in other states, he added.
