Shillong Feb 3: The Election Committee of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee has approved the name of Jotin Khardewsaw as the candidate for the upcoming bye-election to Langrin constituency of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC). The name of Khardewsaw was approved as the party’s candidate during the meeting held on Monday.
The voting for the bye election will be held on February 28, and counting of votes on March 3. The Langrin seat fell vacant after the death of United Democratic Party (UDP) MDC, Nasar Marweiñ on October 28 last year.
At present the KHADC has 29 members following the demise of Marweiñ.
The UDP has decided to field Ranikor MLA, Pius Marweiñ as its candidate.
The model code of conduct will come into force from February 17 and it will be effective only within Langrin constituency.
A notification for conducting the bye-election will be held on February 17, the day when filing of nominations will also commence.
The last date of filing of nomination is on February 19 before 3 pm, and scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on the same day after 3 pm.
The last date for withdrawal of nominations is on February 20 and the finalisation and publication of valid nominations and allocation of symbols to candidates is on February 22.
