Shillong, May 31: Congress retained the Ampati seat with a huge margin on Thursday, making it the single largest party in the state with 21 legislators.

Congress’s candidate Miani D Shira, daughter of former Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma won the bye election to the Ampati seat by 3,191 votes.

The Congress candidate got 14259 while NPP candidate, Clement G. Momin  secured 11,068 votes, Independent candidate got 360 votes and NOTA 208 votes.

“I dedicate this victory to the people of Ampati,” Shira said after her victory.
