Shillong Dec 26: The opposition Congress will send a team of legislators on Friday to the coal mine in East Jaiñtia Hills district where more than 13 coal miners have been trapped since December 13.

Congress MLA, H.M. Shangpliang said on Wednesday that a Congress Legislature Party (CLP) team will visit the coal mine and take stock of the situation.

Rescue operation by NDRF personnel has been stopped since December 22 for want of more power pumps.

Earlier the East Jaiñtia Hills district administration has requested the Coal India Limited to provide more power pumps in order to continue with the rescue operation.

Congress MLA from Rajabala constituency, Azad Zaman had also visited the coal mining site few weeks ago as some of the miners who were trapped inside the coal mine belonged to his constituency.

Meanwhile Congress president, Rahul Gandhi asked Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to save the miners.

Gandhi said that 15 miners have been struggling for air in a flooded coal mine for two weeks.

Taking a dig at Modi, the Congress president said, “PM struts about on Bogibeel Bridge (inauguration of Bogibeel Bridge in Assam) posing for cameras. His government refuses to organize high pressure pumps for the rescue. PM please save the miners,” Gandhi said on twitter.
