Congress yet to finalize candidate for Rajya Sabha election

Shillong, Mar 04: The opposition Congress is yet to decide its candidate for the election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat slated for March 26.

“We are working on it,” Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma told reporters on Wednesday.

When asked, Sangma said there are quite a number of interesting candidates.

“It is not yet to final because aspiring friends are there, and they are still indicating their desires to indicate their availability and their intent to serve the people of the state,” he said.

Sangma however refused to indicate as to when the party is going to announce its candidate by saying “that will constitute element of suspense for everyone which is good for us.”

The Congress has Wansuk Syeim as the member of Rajya Sabha from the state for two terms.

Syiem’s term as Rajya Sabha MP will end on April 12.

It is not clear if Syiem is still interested to be the candidate.
