Shillong, May 7: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said the defeat of the Congress in the Williamnagar election would also impact the bye election to Ampati constituency to be held on May 28.

Conrad told reporters that though each election is different and every constituency has its own challenges but the win of the NPP in Williamnagar with a comfortable margin showed that people have faith in the party, which will definitely have an impact on the Ampati bye election.

On infighting in the Congress that led to the defeat of Congress candidate, Deborah C. Marak from Williamnagar, he said that it was very unfortunate that the Congress leadership did not support the candidate.

“When the situation is like this, it will impact the morale of Congress workers and the confidence of voters will also go down,” He said.

Asked if former Chief Minister and present Leader of Opposition, Mukul Sangma is losing ground in Garo hills, Conrad said that it is the people to decide. “The people have reposed faith in us, and it is our duty to carry it forward,” he added.
