Shillong Jan 19: The ruling Congress in Meghalaya will convene a meeting of the Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) next week to finalize its candidates from few constituencies.
Sources said that in certain constituencies, aspirants vying for party ticket would be kept on hold as the party is planning to announce the list of candidates in two phases.
A Congress leader said on Friday that the committee may meet most probably on Monday or Tuesday to finalise the candidates for the first list.
Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Dr Celestine Lyngdoh is the chairman of the 13-member PEC. Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma is also the member of the committee besides Shillong MP, Vincent H. Pala who is the MPCC working president, veteran leader, D.D. Lapang who is the advisor to the MPCC and other party leaders.
