Conrad addresses several election rallies in Bajengdoba constituency

Shillong, Feb 10: National People’s Party (NPP) National President, Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday addressed several election rallies under Bajengdoba constituency and sought people’s pledge to support party’s candidate, Pongseng R. Marak.

At an election rally at Gokul, Conrad welcomed hundreds of Congress workers who joined the NPP and stated that Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma’s rule in Meghalaya will come to an end and that he would lose from both the seats, Ampati and Songsak in this election slated for February 27.

“People have realized that the Congress has no more future. We are confident that through united support, the NPP will be able to form the next government in Meghalaya for inclusive growth and development”, Conrad said, while welcoming at least 600 plus active Congress workers from different areas under Bajengdoba and Kharkutta constituency.

Expressing concern over poor development indices, Conrad said, “Congress has failed to ensure transparency in the implementation of different Central schemes and the end result has been that people have to suffer a lot. We have to end the Congress rule forever and choose a party that would work to create a new Meghalaya”.

Lambasting the chief minister and the Congress-led government for its failure to implement PMGSY roads in interior areas of Garo Hills, the Tura MP also pointed that during his recent trip to Kharkutta constituency, he visited the most difficult Dongkongsi and adjoining villages, where there is no proper road for about 300 villages.

“As the chief minister of Meghalaya, he has focused only in Ampati, but the fact remains that he could not even development Ampati. It is time that we wake up and ensure the end of Congress rule for once and all”, Conrad said.

He also alleged that the Congress has not been able to talk on issues, but initiated false propaganda to create fear that if NPP is given the mandate, religious institutions and minorities will face harassment as NPP is an ally of the BJP.

“NPP has always raised its pitch for the indigenous people and minorities. We have been working with the Centre to ensure that development reaches not just Meghalaya but the entire North East”, he said, while enlightening the people that NPP was founded by late Purno Sangma to champion the cause of minorities and people of the North East.

He expressed confidence that the NPP would emerge as a major political force that will secure maximum seats in the ensuing election and form the government.

“Mukul cannot fool the people of Meghalaya anymore and the wave of NPP is strong and growing now. People of Meghalaya have faith in us and we will not leave any stone unturned to fulfill their expectations”, Conrad assured.

The NPP chief also remarked that in almost all constituencies of Meghalaya, NPP has become a major force while Congress was trying to pollute people’s mind because they knew that it has become impossible for them (Congress) to win even a single seat.
