SHILLONG, Nov 27: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) national president Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday urged the Northeastern states to unite as one, at the “One North East Thansa (Unity) Rally” held at Astabal Ground, Agartala. He stressed that the region’s strength lies in unity — “If a tree is alone, then even a storm can push it down. But trees together in a jungle can drive a storm away.”
Thousands of supporters and leaders from across the Northeast gathered at the rally, marking the first public event since the announcement on November 4, 2025, in New Delhi to form a single political platform representing the region.
Sangma told the rally that division weakens voices and hampers the ability to address common challenges. “The more separated we become, the more our voices are not heard,” he said, calling for solidarity to amplify the region’s collective aspirations.
Addressing discrimination faced by the youth of the Northeast, Sangma said unity is key to counter such challenges. He emphasized that cultural identity, heritage and shared struggles should unite the region rather than divide it.
Also present at the rally were leaders from regional parties and organizations across the Northeast, including figures from the TIPRA Motha Party and other regional groups. Their presence was hailed as a sign of widespread support for the vision of a united Northeast.
Sangma concluded by calling on all communities in the region to come together: “We once walked separate roads, but today we begin walking as one. No one will be left behind. This is our shared journey.”
