Shillong, Oct 23: Meghalaya Assembly Speaker, AT Mondal said that the financial bid for the construction of new Assembly building will be opened on October 25, after three firms were selected based on technical evaluation by the Public Works Department.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the High Powered Committee (HPC) held on here on Monday, Mondal said out of seven companies that participated in the tendering process, three have been selected for opening of financial bids.
The three firms include Shapoorji Pallonji Co. & Ltd., Simplex Infrastructure Limited and Shree Gautam Infrastructure Company Limited.
“We have decided that the Public Works Department should go ahead in opening the financial bid on October 25,” he said while informing that contract work for the construction of a new building of the State Assembly will be allotted to the lowest bidder.
Mondal said, if the first lowest bidder expressed its inability to complete the project within a stipulated time, the work will be allotted to the second lowest bidder.
The Speaker informed that the estimated cost for constructing the new building is Rs 141 crore and the targeted time to complete the project is 3 years.
To a query, the Speaker said that the construction may start next month.
Meghalaya is yet to have its permanent Assembly building after an old Assembly building at Khyndai Lad here, was destroyed by fire on January 9, 2001.
