Shillong May 4: Meghalaya chief secretary, M S Rao has asked proprietors of shops and other establishments to take appropriate measures to prevent people from crowding and breaking of social distancing norms in their respective premises, failing which, it would warrant to closure, as this might derail the efforts of the State’s Covid-19 containment strategy.
The warning from the government came after witnessing open violation of physical distancing on the first day of the relaxation of lockdown, especially at liquor stores and even inside private vehicles.
“Violation of physical distancing norms was also noticed at some Government offices,” Rao said.
Any person violating the physical distancing norms including not wearing masks in public areas shall be
strictly acted upon as per provisions of law u/s 269 and other relevant sections of IPC, the chief secretary said, while asking all proprietors of shops and other establishments to take appropriate measures to prevent people from crowding and breaking social distancing norms in their respective premises.
“Failure to enforce the above norms, would warrant closure of the shops and establishments. The administrative heads of government offices should also enforce the above mentioned norms,” the chief secretary said.
