Shillong, June 14 – The Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO), a powerful women’s group in Meghalaya on Sunday condemned the alleged molestation of two women by a medical doctor and demanded that no bail should be granted to him.
Dr. Jhutan Chowdhury, a senior resident doctor with the North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) hospital’s medicine department was arrested on Friday by Meghalaya police based on police complaint of molestation charge against him.
“We demand that no bail should be granted to this person who has molested two young women, took advantage of their trust on a Doctor, who had faith in examining them,†CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said.
“His (Dr Chowdhury) act has shamed the Institution, profession, and abused his position and even took one of the patients for examining in a room which is used by doctors for consulting among the doctors in NEIGRIHMS. This doctor examined both patients twice on that day to fulfill his lust,†She alleged.
Kharshiing said the accused doctor should be booked under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989, so that such perpetrators cannot exploit and take advantage, of our women.
“The CSWO has met the victims, and their statement is shocking and factual and his photograph should be upload so that in case there are more such victims who had full faith on this person, as definite this would not be his first time and in the interest of public at large, his photo should be upload,†the CSWO president demanded.
