Shillong Feb 28: District Council Affairs commissioner and secretary, Tining Dkhar on Thursday said that there was no violation of the model code of conduct during the elections to both the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council.
The elections to the both the Councils were held on Wednesday.
Dkhar said that there was no violation of the model code of conduct, and the matter was left with respective deputy commissioners to handle and take necessary action.
People said that there were many incidents related to violation of the model code of conduct which took place because of the absence of proper rules and guidelines.
Voters in rural areas said that there were ministers who used their VIP car when they campaigned for their candidate and made various announcements from the platform.
The elections to the KHADC and JHADC were held on Wednesday and the overall turnout of voters in the both the councils was 89.23 per cent.
The KHADC recorded a turnout of 76.67 per cent, and a turnout of 89.22 per cent in JHADC.
In KHADC, the lowest turnout was recorded in Nongthymmai constituency just 48.50 per cent, while Nongshken constituency recorded the highest at 88.22 per cent.
In JHADC, the turnout has crossed 80 per cent in all constituencies. While Jowai-North recorded the lowest at 81.12 per cent, the highest was 96.41 per cent in Tuber constituency.
In the 2014 elections, the KHADC recorded a turnout of 78 per cent and 92 per cent in JHADC.
Meanwhile preparations including security arrangements have been made for counting of votes which will begin at 8 pm on Saturday.
