Demand for C&RD Block at Umdohlun-Wahkaji Area : SSSS

Shillong,Aug.12: The Synjuk ki Seng Samla Shnong (SSSS) of South West Khasi Hills District on friday demanded the state government to consider creation of a new Community and Rural Development Block at Warsanlyngdoh or Umdohlun-Wahkaji area of the district.

In a memorandum submitted to the chief minister Mukul Sangma on Friday, SSSS chairman Wallambok Syiemiong said, “Creation of the new C&RD Block in such remote location will to a great extend bring people closer to good-governance and for all round developments.”

He said that Warsanlyngdoh area is consisting of more than 40 villages and the people of the area are mostly under BPL families and are facing various kinds of hardships as they only depend on Jhum Cultivation for their livelihood, which in turn had affected their environment due to large scale deforestation.

According to him, people cannot afford to travel all the way to Nongstoin, Mawkyrwat or Ranikor to meet the Block Development officers, especially due to the absence of transport and communication.

“This area is also being neglected by the Government for more than two decades,” he said.

Meanwhile, the SSSS also assured the government that it will extend a helping hand together with the people to avail a suitable land for the creation of the new C&RD Block.
