Shillong, Aug 3: With the announcement of National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft list in Assam on July 30, the situation in the state of Meghalaya escalates over the demand of proper mechanism like NRC to check influx , as per the reports  members of the Hynniew-Trep Youth Council (HYC) have stormed the state Secretariat on Friday  morning  demanding the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) as well as an NRC-like exercise in the state.

It may be mention that NRC draft list in Assam on July 30 had already put  Meghalaya and all neighbouring north-eastern states over the likely influx into the states.

As a result,  demands for ILP and NRC exercises to control illegal influx by the prominent student bodies across North-east India have raised.

Meanwhile, The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) two days before also submitted a proposal to Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong, suggesting the government to adopt a similar kind of exercise like the NRC even in Meghalaya.

Further details awaited
