Devotees throng Mahadev Khola to offer prayers on Maha Shivratri

Shillong, Feb 21, 2020: The festival of Maha Shivaratri is being celebrated with reverence, devotion and gaiety at various Shiv temples located in the capital city Shillong.

Devotees belonging to different communities in large numbers thronged the temples to offer their prayers to Lord Shiva.

Religious procession was also held by devotees in the Mahadev Khola Dham temple located at 101 Area, Shillong.Various food stalls and activities depicting the festival of Maha Shivaratri were also placed in various parts of the city.

Adequate security arrangements were also made by Meghalaya Police to allow free flow of vehicular movements in the temples in Shillong.

Maha Shivratri, which literally translates to “great night of Shiva” is a Hindu festival largely celebrated in India as well as in Nepal. The festival is celebrated on the new moon day in the month of Maagha according to the Hindu calendar. The day is celebrated to venerate Lord Shiva, an important deity in Hindu culture.
