Shillong, Sept 29: The Meghalaya government has appointed DG (Prisons), RP Agarwal as acting DGP following the retirement of senior IPS officer, R Awasthi.
Awasthi retired from the post of Director General, Civil Defence & Home Guards, but he also took charge as acting DGP.
As DG (Prisons), Agarwal has been given additional charge of the office of DGP with effect from September 30, 2018.
The order allowing Agarwal to look after the DGP office was issued on September 28. “This order shall immediately cease on appointment of a full-fledged DGP,†the order said.
Meghalaya has been without full time DGP after the retirement of former Director General of Police (DGP), SB Singh, on July 31, 2018.
The Meghalaya government is waiting for a response from the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) regarding the appointment of full time DGP.
