Shillong, January 29, 2026: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar is set to chair a key meeting with the Sports and Youth Affairs Department on Friday to review preparations and logistical arrangements for the 39th National Games.
The meeting, to be held in coordination with Sports Minister Wailadmiki Shylla, will focus on critical issues such as the development of parking facilities and the proposed Games Village, along with other infrastructure-related requirements.
Emphasising the importance of cleanliness ahead of the multi-sport event, Dhar said awareness programmes would be conducted across localities to encourage public participation in keeping the city clean.
“We want cleanliness. Cleanliness in the city cannot be done by one person alone, but everyone can do it together,” he said.
The state government also plans to undertake repairs of damaged footpaths and railings, besides installing signboards appealing to residents and visitors to help maintain cleanliness in Shillong.
According to Dhar, the meeting will also seek to identify accommodation and parking requirements across key venues in Garo Hills, Jaintia Hills, and Shillong city, which are expected to host events during the Games.
He added that instructions have been issued to ensure the construction of parking lots is completed within 2026, in line with the preparations for the National Games.
