Dubakh Clinches Double Victory at Onyx Sport Club Basketball Tournament

Shillong | July 28, 2025 The basketball tournament organised by Onyx Sport Club and Academy, under the banner of the Meghalaya Basketball Tournament, concluded in style on Saturday evening, the 26 July 2025 at the Mawlai Mawroh Basketball Court. Held in collaboration with the Durbar Shnong Mawlai Mawroh, the tournament showcased thrilling finals and a strong display of young talent.

Open to all players under 23 years of age, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 17 men’s clubs and 14 women’s clubs from across the region, highlighting the growing popularity of basketball among the youth in Meghalaya.

Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, Cabinet Minister Shri A.L. Hek commended the organisers and athletes for promoting youth engagement in sports. “In sport, there are winners and losers, but what truly matters is the spirit of the game,” he said, while wishing all participating teams success in their future sporting journeys.

The tournament was also supported and presented by the Headman of Mawlai Mawroh and his executive committee, who played a vital role in facilitating the smooth conduct of the event.

In the men’s final, Dubakh edged past Onyx in a tightly contested match, finishing with a score of 52–46. In the women’s final, Dubakh’s women’s team put in a commanding performance to defeat Marbisu 41–32, securing an impressive double championship win for the club.

To recognise outstanding individual efforts, Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards were presented to:

  • Women’s MVP: Iban Mawiong
  • Men’s MVP: Hame Kharsyntiew

The tournament stood out not only for its competitive edge but also for promoting unity, sportsmanship, and youth development in Meghalaya’s dynamic basketball scene.
