Shillong, Nov 24: Congress veteran leader and deputy chief minister Roytre C. Laloo said that he saw no alternative that can replace the present chief minister, Mukul Sangma.
“I don’t see anyone as of now who will be an alternative to replace Sangma,” Laloo told reporters here on Friday, while replying to a query.
Laloo, who also called himself as a “stabilizing factor” in the Congress, said that he has been man who has loyalty to party and the leader he worked with in the government.
It may be mentioned that Laloo had distance himself from the “unsuccessful” campaign by dissident Congress MLAs to oust Sangma in the past years.
Asked whether he finds the former minister Prestone Tynsong, who will soon leave the Congress to join the NPP, to be a chief minister material, the veteran leader however said, “Any MLA can lead the state because a person has to be an MLA to become the CM or minister.”
Joined politics in 1983, Laloo, the NEHU professor-turned-politician had got the privilege to work with five chief ministers – late Caption William Sangma, late Purno A Sangma, Salseng Ch Marak, D.D. Lapang and Mukul Sangma.
“All of them have their own good and unique qualities as leaders,” he said while recalling that he had been serving as ministers during their time and had enjoyed their trusts.
Asked what was the reason for him not being able to grap the opportunity to lead the state as the chief minister, the veteran leader said, “Well it is simple I did try, but I did not get the number.”
