East Jaiñtia Hills district DC urges public to remain vigilant in view of NRC in Assam

Shillong, Aug 2: East Jaiñtia Hills district Deputy Commissioner has informed that after the release of the National Registration of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, all people in the district are urged to remain vigil so that there will be no illegal intruders entering any villages in the district.

The DC informed that any person(s) whose identity found to be not clear, should be brought to the notice of the police at the earliest.

The Deputy Commissioner also called upon each and everyone to co-operate with the District Administration in order to maintain peace and tranquility in the district.

Over 40 lakhs people were not included in the final draft NRC as they are not eligible to be the citizens in Assam.

There is fear that those people whose names did not figure in the NRC might move out from Assam to find shelter in neighbouring states including Meghalaya.
