East Khasi Hills Crowned Champions at the NHM Sports Meet Closing Ceremony

Shillong, October 17, 2025: The 1st Annual Sports Meet of the National Health Mission Employees Association (NHM), Meghalaya, concluded today with a vibrant closing ceremony at the Nongkseh Sports Ground, marking a successful culmination of three days of spirited competition and fellowship among healthcare professionals.

Organised under the theme “Wellness through Sports, Service through Health,” the event celebrated the values of fitness, teamwork, and service that define the State’s health workforce.

The closing ceremony was graced by Shri Ronnie V. Lyngdoh, MLA of Mylliem Constituency, as the Chief Guest, and Shri Daniel M. Thangkhiew, Political Secretary & OSD to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, as the Guest of Honour.

A Celebration of Teamwork and Wellness

The sports meet featured an array of events, including football, basketball, badminton, and a spirited tug of war, with participants representing health units from across the State. East Khasi Hills District emerged as the overall champions, showcasing exceptional teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Ronnie V. Lyngdoh congratulated the participants and organizers, describing the sports meet as a historic milestone. “This is the first time that such a programme is being organised, and it is indeed a momentous occasion. I hope future editions will be even more enthusiastic and productive, bringing out our sportsmanship and team spirit,” he said. He urged healthcare professionals to continue promoting community wellness through active participation in sports.

Shri Daniel M. Thangkhiew, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to NHM for selecting Nongkseh as the venue, saying the event had brought renewed vibrancy to the locality. “The team spirit and discipline witnessed over the last three days speak volumes and set an example for everyone,” he added, welcoming future NHM events in the area.

Recognizing Dedication and Unity

Dr. B. Mawlong, Joint Director of Health Services (MCH & FW), applauded the NHM staff for organizing a successful meet, describing it as “a day of celebration of energy, unity, and the spirit of sportsmanship that binds all of us as a team beyond the walls of our office room.” She emphasized the importance of physical activity in reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases, adding that sports strengthen both body and mind.

Smt. Ibamonlang Nongbri, State Programme Manager, NHM Meghalaya, expressed gratitude to all participants and supporters. “Don’t think that your hard work goes unnoticed. There is always someone who appreciates the dedication and effort you put into your work,” she said, encouraging continued commitment to excellence in public health service.

Shri Kmembhalang Khongwir, Internal Advisor, NEAM, reflected on the association’s journey, highlighting its achievements and commitment to employee welfare under the guiding motto “To Serve to Support.”

Earlier in the event, Shri Pynshainam Mylliem, Vice President, CEC, NEAM, delivered the welcome address, while Mr. Hiporly Talang, Vice President, DEC NEAM, East Khasi Hills, presented a summary of the three-day meet and offered the vote of thanks.

Looking Ahead

The sports meet concluded with a collective promise to continue fostering wellness, unity, and teamwork among Meghalaya’s healthcare professionals. The event reinforced the belief that healthy, motivated teams build healthier communities.
