Shillong, September 17, 2025: The East Khasi Hills Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the brutal killing of four-year-old Insaphira Lyngdoh Mawnai at Nongrah, Nonglum Brei.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Syiem, briefing the media on Tuesday, said the SIT’s formation reflects the seriousness and urgency with which the case is being handled. “This matter will not be taken lightly. The investigation has made significant progress, and those involved—directly or indirectly—will soon be brought to justice,” he said.
Syiem also appealed to the public to refrain from spreading unverified information on social media, warning that rumours could interfere with the investigation and delay justice.
The gruesome incident has left Nongrah and the state in deep shock. Civil society groups and political organisations have demanded swift action to track down and punish the perpetrators.
