Election Commission of India announces national award for Meghalaya

Shillong, Jan 24: The Election Commission of India has announced that Meghalaya has been selected for the National Award for Best State for Electoral Practises 2018 for overall performance in election management.

The state was selected to receive the award for overall performance in election management in criterias covering Elector Population (EP) ratio,18 and 19 years registeration of electors, partnership building, conduct of elections, voter turnout and most notably innovative voter awareness/ voter education and electoral participation.

The award carries a cash prize, plaque and citation and will be conferred by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind upon the Chief Electoral Officer, FR Kharkongor at the National function of the National Voters Day in New Delhi on January 25.

Meghalaya’s efforts have especially been recognized for outstanding achievement in Voters Education and Electoral Participation and Innovative measures.Besides Meghalaya in the overall achievement in the States category, Karnataka and Chattisgarh have also been selected for the award.
