Shillong, July 10: The Meghalaya government has notified the date for the election of a new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) on July 18.
The notification came after the Governor, Banwarilal Purohit approved the lifting of administrator’s rule in GHADC.
District Council Affairs Minister, Prestone Tynsong on Monday said that the Governor has approved the recommendation for lifting of administrator’s rule in GHADC and a notification for the election of a new CEM has been issued.
The election of CEM will be held on July 18 at am, the notification said.
Administrator’s rule was imposed in GHADC on April 4 by the Meghalaya government, after the then CEM, Denang T. Sangma, relinquished the post on March 30, when the council’s budget session was on.
Boston Marak, who was the Chairman of the GHADC has resigned from the post to pave way for him to contest the election for the CEM post.
United Democratic Alliance, a new coalition under the leadership of Boston has been formed with the support of MDCs from the Congress including Independents.
