Shillong July 22: The Meghalaya EMRI Workers Union (MEWU) has decided to withdraw their indefinite strike after the Meghalaya government assured to constitute a committee to look into their demands and address them.
This decision was taken after the Union representatives met Health Minister, AL Hek in the state Secretariat on Monday evening in the presence of officials of the State Health Department, representatives of GVK EMRI.
The workers Union began their strike on Friday last in protest against the adamant attitude of the health department and the management’s failure to address their grievances.
The demands of the workers Union include, improving ambulance services in the state, stop punishing the employees by transferring them forcefully to other locations for raising their voice against the management and the government should take over the emergency service since the state government is providing cent per cent fund to the GVK EMRI.
President of the Union, Roipar Kharraswai said that the Union has decided to call off the strike since the Minister has assured to constitute a special committee to look into their demands and resolve the same.
The committee will be headed by state health secretary, Pravin Bakshi and members of the committee include officials from the labour and transport departments, three officials of the GVK management and four representatives from the Union.
Hek a status quo should be maintained where the employees of GVK have to call off their strike, and the management of GVK has to also call off show cause notice and termination letter, transfer order issued to some of the employees.
â€Both sides have agreed to maintain the status quo,” Hek said.
The first meeting of the Committee will be held on July 25.
Hek also informed that the state is likely to receive 30 Ambulances from Air India under its Corporate Social Responsibility after the State government had written to the Union Civil Aviation Ministry in this regard.
