Shillong, Oct 2: Students from various parts of Eastern Nagaland who are pursuing various fields of studies in educational institutes in Shillong were welcomed to state capital of Meghalaya on Tuesday.

The new comers to Shillong were welcomed by the Eastern Naga Students Union (ENSU) (ENSU), Shillong that organized its 15th Fresher’s cum 2nd annual cultural meet at the Naga Community Hall, Nagaland House, Nongrim Hills here. Students’ leaders from various Naga tribes and other communities from the Northeastern states attended the gathering.

Philanthropist and Managing Director of NEC Energy Private Limited, Sapu Bhattacharya who was the chief guest at the daylong programme, exhorted the students to inculcate acquired knowledge and return to their homeland with the mission to educate the people in their respective areas.

“There are no good educational institutes in Eastern Nagaland. Why can’t we have such good institutes in Kiphire, Mon, Tuensang and our people from that region are not far behind in terms of educational qualification. If we can have one good institute, it will benefit our people to large extend,” Bhattacharya said.

Bhattacharya also urged the students to be pillars of these good institutes so that students from other parts of the region would also come and pursue their academic career.

Bhattacharya also emphasized the need to protect and preserve the integrity of Eastern Nagas in particular, and Nagas in general.

On the occasion, President of the Eastern Naga Students Union, Y. Tosayenba Phom and president of the ENSU, Guwahati spoke on the occasion.

The gathering was enthralled by performances from the six cultural troops of Nagaland which include Chang, Konyak, Khiamniungan, Phom, Sangtam and Yimchunger, besides special songs from L.Hamnyei Konyak.

E. Konchei Phom and Pastor Sumi Christian Fellowship, Shillong gave the blessings and benediction upon the freshers.
