Shillong, August 15, 2025: As part of the 79th Independence Day celebrations, the Raj Bhavan in Shillong hosted a special programme to mark the International Year of Cooperatives 2025.
Organised in collaboration with the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA) and the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank (MCAB), the event honoured farmers and Cooperative Societies engaged in agriculture, allied activities, and handicrafts.
Stalls set up by Cooperative Societies and individual farmers from across the state showcased a variety of produce, including farm-based food and beverages, fresh fruits and vegetables, plantation crops, and locally crafted goods such as baskets, woven textiles, and handmade items derived from indigenous materials.

Dignitaries attending the Independence Day function toured the stalls, interacted with participants, and purchased products as a gesture of encouragement and support.
The Governor of Meghalaya commended the farmers and cooperatives for their role in strengthening the state’s economy, adding that the International Year of Cooperatives offers an ideal platform to enhance collaboration, promote self-reliance, and improve rural livelihoods.
