Shillong Nov 3: Farmers under the banner of Hill Farmers Union (HFU) have decided not to sell agricultural produces at ïewduh on Monday as a mark of protest against deduction of actual weight of goods.
According to farmers, there has been deduction of weight by few kilograms from the actual weight of agricultural produces being sold at ïewduh.
Instead of going to ïewduh, farmers would gather at the Khasi National Dorbar Hall, Mawkhar at 11 am to discuss the problem and take recourse find solution
HFU President, Commander Shangpliang informed that the farmers were delighted when the Syiem of Hima Mylliem issued an order to stop such deduction, but it still continues till today.
“We received complaints almost every day from our farmers that the actual weight of produces from was reduced by few kilograms by the buyers,†Shangpliang said.
He said that the matter was also brought to the notice of acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem, since ïewduh is the market under the management of the Hima.
Shangpliang urged all farmers to attend the meeting as a mark of protest at Mawkhar.
He said that the Union will not rest till the problem is removed and urged the farmers to unite and fight together in order to be able to solve the problem.
“Farmers should not afraid of middlemen who might have threatened them that they (middlemen) would not buy their agricultural produces if they join the protest,†Shangpliang said.
