Shillong, September 23, 2025: The Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM) staged a protest at Malki Playground today, pressing the state government to resolve long-pending issues affecting school teachers, particularly Adhoc staff.
Education Minister Bah Lahkmen Rymbui was reportedly unavailable to attend the gathering, as he was engaged in a scheduled government briefing with FASTOM Vice President Babu Jungai.
Speaking to reporters, Jungai said the Minister has assured that clarifications for Adhoc teachers will be provided, and that the government will examine all suggestions regarding the management of teacher postings across the state before making any final decisions.
FASTOM has raised concerns about the transfer of Adhoc teachers to deficit schools, the existing deficit pattern, and issues related to basic pay and Dearness Allowance (DA). Jungai stated that a clear timeline and pay scale notification would allow teachers to plan ahead. “If the government can inform us from a specific date, such as the 1st of Kyllalyngkot, about the pay scale, we would be satisfied with that,” he said.
He further informed that FASTOM will continue consultations with its members, both in Shillong and the Garo Hills, to finalize its position on the matter.
Meanwhile, the Education Minister has reportedly stated that decisions regarding Adhoc teacher postings will be taken only after review by the committee and consultations with stakeholders, including school management committees. The Education Department is working to streamline postings and address teacher concerns in a comprehensive manner.
