Shillong, May 9: Filing of nominations for the bypoll to Amapti Assembly seat will end on Thursday.

So far, Congress nominee, Miani Dalbot Shira and NPP candidate, Clement G. Momin have filed their nominations.

Miani is the eldest daughter of former chief minister and leader of opposition in Assembly, Dr Mukul Sangma.

The bye election is required after Dr Mukul who won both Ampati and Songsak seats in the February-27 Assembly elections, gave up Ampati as he decided to remain as the MLA of Songsak in East Garo Hills district.

The last date for filing of nominations is Thursday and scrutiny of nominations will take place on May 11. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is May 14.

Earlier, the BJP has indicated that it would again field Bakul Hajong as the candidate for the bypoll.

Hajong was defeated by Dr Mukul in the February-27 Assembly polls from Ampati by a huge margin.

The bye election will be held on May 28 and counting of votes on May 31.
