Five more candidates filed nominations in Meghalaya

Shillong, Feb 01 : Five more candidates on Thrusday filed their nomination papers for the single phase elections to the 60-member Meghalaya assembly scheduled to be held on February 27, an election official said.

Prominent among those who filed their nominations include the sitting Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) legislator Witting Mawsor from Mawthengkut assembly constituency in West Khasi Hills district, former Transport minister Nimarson Momin, who filed his nomination papers as United Democratic Party candidate from Salmanpara assembly constituency in South West Garo Hills district.

Former Weights and Measure Minister, Lambor Malangiang, who filed his nomination papers as an Independent candidate from Nongkrem constituency.

Congress nominee Gabriel Wahlang filed his nomination paper from Nongstoin assembly constituency while Teibor Pathaw filed his nomination papers as Independent candidate from Mawlai constituency.

On Thursday, three candidates that include Information and Technology Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh filed their nominations for the assembly polls.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi had exuded confidence that Congress party will retain power in Meghalaya, while the BJP is yet to announce it candidate for the Meghalaya polls.
