Shillong, July 16: Importing fish from outside is likely to be banned by the Meghalaya government.
Sources in the state health department said that the government was waiting for a second test report from a laboratory in Assam.
Few days back, officials of the food safety have collected the second batch of samples of fish brought from outside the state, and the samples were again sent to Assam for test.
“If the second test reports confirms that fish from outside has been laced with formalin, necessary steps would taken to ban the import of fish from outside,†an official said on Tuesday.
The first batch of samples collected from fishes brought from outside were also sent earlier for test at the laboratory in Assam.
However the but the first test report was negative.
