Shillong, Oct 4: Former Meghalaya Chief Minister and current Leader of Opposition in Assembly, Dr Mukul Sangma on Thursday wrote a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma expressing his reservation over the manner in which police officers were transferred and demanded holding of the State Security Commission (SSC) meeting to discuss the matter.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, the Congress leader alleged “haphazard and irregular†transfers of police officers across different ranks and files in the last few months, adding that this development has vitiated the environment in the whole police organization, as most of these transfers have been an outcome of political interference.
“It is imperative to note that the police organization plays a crucial role in the whole process of administration of justice, besides the burden of various other responsibilities of attending to call of duty as per mandate of law. This whole action resorted to by the authorities due to political interference is in contravention of the provisions of the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010,†Mukul said.
