Shillong, Feb 26:
Former Congress leader, John F Kharshiing has proposed himself to be the candidate of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) for the election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat slated for March 26.

“I would like to express my interest and request consideration for nomination by the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) for the Rajya Sabha (Council of States) seat from Meghalaya,” Kharshiing said in a letter to chief minister and chairman of the MDA coordination committee, Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday.

Stating that it would be an honour to represent Meghalaya in the Rajya Sabha (Council of States), Kharshiing said, “I assure you that I will faithfully discharge my duties and responsibilities to the best of my ability.”

Earlier, the National People’s Party (NPP) which is leading the MDA government had proposed the name of its state president, Dr Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi as the candidate.
