Shillong, Jan 4: Congress President, Rahul Gandhi has appointed former Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader in Meghalaya, Deborah C Marak secretary of the All India Mahila Congress (AIMC).
Marak has been appointed to the post along other office bearers of the AIMC.
Congress leaders, Soumya Reddy and Parminder Kaur wre appointed as as AIMC general secretaries, while the name of Marak, Dipika Pandey, Bhavna Jain and Dr Jury Sharma were approved as secretaries of the AIMC.
Ranjeeta Mehta, Nooro Khan and Preeti Tiwari were also appointed as AIMC national coordinators.
Marak was the Deputy Chief Minister of the Congress government in Meghalaya led by former Chief Minister, D.D. Lapang and in the previous Congress government led by former Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma, she was the Minister in-charge Education.
Marak was the Congress MLA from Williamnagar constituency in Garo Hills and she lost to Marcuise Marak of the National People’s Party (NPP) in the 2018 Assembly polls.
