Shillong, Sept 19: Former United Democratic Party (UDP) leader, Khranglin Lyngkhoi who did not win a single election in his political career, has decided to support sitting Congress MLA and minister, Martin M. Danggo from Ranikor constituency in the upcoming Assembly election.
Lyngkhoi told reporters that he had left UDP in 2014 following differences over the allotment of party ticket to candidate from Ranikor in the election to the KHADC in 2014.
Lyngkhoi, was the treasurer of the UDP, and had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly elections in 1998, 2003, and 2008 besides MDC election in 2009.
Lyngdoh always came second as candidate of the UDP from the erstwhile Langrin constituency and could not defeat Danggo of the Congress who was his opponent.
“We will convene a general meeting in Ranikor next month along with my supporters to further strengthen the Congress party,” Lyngkhoi said.
He claimed that he has about 7000 supporters in the constituency who would follow him and vote for the Congress in the upcoming election to ensure the victory of Danggo.
