GNLA’s close aide arrested in South Garo Hills

Shillong, Sept 29: A close aide of the proscribed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) was arrested from a remote village in South Garo Hills.
Acting on a tip off, police along with SF 10 commandos immediately conducted raids at Dosogre village and arrested a hardcore senior GNLA cadre on Thursday night, police said.

He was identified as Bande Ch Marak alias Border of Telikali village. He joined GNLA in 2012 and claimed that he belonged to the 4th batch but did not complete his training.

Police said that he was also present during the last two encounters with police in South Garo Hills district and he managed to escape during an encounter in Rongsu two months ago.

He was unable to contact other members and was therefore still taking shelter in the village.

However, no arm was recovered from his possession.

Marak also confessed that he was present along with GNLA chief, Sohan D. Shira during an ambush on police personnel few years ago where several policemen had been killed in both at Kolapara and Panda.
