Shillong, May 27: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday said that the Maharashtra and Goa government’s have assured to help stranded citizens to return to the state.

“I have spoken to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Maharashtra Tourism Minister Aditya Thackeray to provide special trains to the stranded citizens of Meghalaya,” he told reporters.

“We have got an assurance and we will resolve the Mumbai, Pune and other parts of Maharashtra situation at an early date,” Sangma assured.

So far, 10,151 people have returned to the state from different parts of the country and more special trains are on their way carrying returnees from Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and two more trains are scheduled to start from Delhi and Kerala.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who was also present at the press conference, informed two more trains carrying around 500 each stranded citizens from Delhi and Kerala are scheduled to start on Wednesday

He said special trains from Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan carrying 317 and 150 respectively are already on the tracks for Guwahati Railway Station in Assam.
