Shillong, June 30: The policy period of Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) will commence from Saturday.
“The MHIS will commence its policy period from 1st July 2017, and those beneficiaries who have already enrolled, can avail the benefits of MHIS smart card in all hospitals empanelled with MHIS,” the government said in a release issued on Friday.
More than one lakh households have been enrolled under MHIS, and the enrolment is in progress in various places.
As part of the preparation to start the MHIS phase-III policy period for smooth implementation of the health insurance scheme, a meeting between secretary of Health & Family Welfare department, H.M. Shangpliang, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of MHIS, and representatives of private hospitals, along with doctors and officials from the Health department, New India Assurance Company Limited and Medicare TPA Services was also held on Friday.
Under MHIS, the coverage extends to five members of a family, and each household has to pay Rs.50 at the time of enrolment for getting the MHIS smart card to avail the scheme at the time of hospitalization.
MHIS is a health insurance scheme to be implemented in the state by combining with the Centrally-sponsored scheme, Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), a health insurance scheme for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families with the objectives to reduce out of pocket (OOP) expenditure on health, and increase access to health care.
RSBY was initially designed by the Central government to target only BPL households, but later the scheme was expanded to cover other defined categories of unorganised workers.
