Shillong, Nov 13: The Meghalaya government has asked the three autonomous district councils (ADCs) to ensure that no unauthorized persons who pretend to be working for the district councils, carry out checking and verification of labour licenses.
The state government told this to the ADCs during a meeting chaired by the chief minister Conrad K Sangma with the representatives of the three ADCs – KHADC, JHADC and GHADC, held here on Wednesday.
The meeting was also attended by deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong, district council affairs minister James K Sangma, transport minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar, urban affairs minister Hamletson Dohling and PHE minister Samlin Malngiang and other officers.
After the meeting, DCA minister James K Sangma said that that it has come to the knowledge of the government that there are certain groups which have been going around under the guise of working for the district councils and doing their own checks on labour licenses and other things.
He said the government has told the district councils that such activities by certain groups has to be stopped and that any kind of checks has to be by authorized persons including officials of the district councils.
“We have asked the district councils to come out with a notification or order stating that checking by any persons who are not officials of the district councils must not be entertained and to authorize only its staffs to carry out such checking,†James said.
Asked, the minister said that the groups have claimed that they have been authorized by the district council and under the guise of this a lot of harassment has been meted out to people adding “this kind of behavior is unacceptable to us.â€
Stating that such incidents were more prevalence in Shillong falling under the KHADC, he said the district councils have to set the record straight on this and they have been told to take action as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, the minister said that the district councils have assured the government that they would immediately act on the matter and that by next week certain measures would be put in place to ensure no unauthorized persons can act on their behalf.
