Shillong, Apr 16: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said the state government is in the process of examining the demand for the creation of a new district in Khasi Hills region.
“The challenges that comes in because of financial issues…is where we are right now and we are examining the entire matter,” Sangma said in an interaction with journalists on Tuesday.
He was reacting to a query related to the demand for upgrading the Sohra Civil Sub-division into a district which has been proposed to be named as South East Khasi Hills District.
The chief minister however said that the demand is something which the state government would like to do adding “We are trying to see how the financial impact would be there and making sure when we go for a decision like this it is something which we will be able to complete.”
According to him, the government believes that governance and administration should get closer to the people.
