Shillong, July 27: Owners and drivers of local taxis bearing green and white colour and black and yellow colour have decided to work together to ensure that grievances faced by both the categories of public taxis are addressed.

This resolution was adopted by owners and drivers of the two categories of local taxis after green and white taxis have raised objections against the move to restrict their movement in Shillong city.

At a meeting of owners and drivers of green and white taxis held at Umphyrnai village on the Shillong-Jowai national highway-44 on Friday, it was decided that owners and drivers of black and yellow taxis would also work together with the green and white taxis so that their livelihood are not affected by any kind of restriction imposed by the government.

Speakers at the meeting said that local taxis have paid tax to the government and slammed the government for allowing middle men to interfere in sale of permit.

They said that though the price of one permit is just Rs 25, but it is being sold illegally in lakhs, especially permit for black and yellow taxis by middle men.
