Ground handling services in airport included under Meghalaya Essential Services Maintenance Act

Shillong, Aug 24: The Meghalaya government on Thursday decided to include aircraft ground handling as a service under the Meghalaya Essential Services Maintenance Act, 1980 while also approving the proposal for enhancing the capital share of MeECL to Rs 3,000 crore.
Addressing media persons after a cabinet meeting here , Deputy Chief Minister Roytre C Laloo said that with the government approving the amendment of section 2 of the Act, the ground handling of the airport will now be declared as an essential service.
He said that exercise was necessitated in compliance with the recent direction of the Central government to all the states to incorporate ground handling as a service under their respective essential services Act.
The deputy chief minister also informed that the Cabinet also approved the proposal for enhancement of the authorised share capital of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) to Rs 3,000 crore from the earlier share which was at Rs 2,000.
According to him, the proposal aims at ensuring that the MeECL expands its business as well as improves its services.
The Cabinet has also approved the draft rules for implementation of the Meghalaya Right To Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
It has also approved the appointment of HM Arengh, a retired joint secretary of the Finance department, as the new secretary of the Meghalaya State Consumer, Dispute, Redressal Commission after the post fell vacant for sometime.
Meanwhile, the cabinet also approved the proposal of the Meghalaya State Name Authority Committee to rename Sonapahar village as Mawshynrut village in West Khasi Hills district.
