Headman seeks CM intervention over road construction at Jeep Stand

Shillong June 18: The headman of Paltan Bazar has sought the intervention of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on the need to reconstruct the road at Jeep Stand which was left neglected since 1990.

In a memorandum submitted to the chief minister here on Monday, the headman Lamki Kyndiah recalled that it was only during the tenure of the then Chief Minister (L) Purno Agitok Sangma, that the stretch at Jeep Stand saw the birth of a road there, and thereafter no repair or maintenance was carried out in the high commercial density of cars playing every day.

“Ministerial in-charge visits have only been mercilessly ceremonial to appease citizens for the last 10 years,” he said.

Kyndiah said, “It is with deep regret and despair that the residents of Paltan Bazar have to write to your office for a road repair of mere 50 metres. However, we have faced the extreme and severe plight of the abandoned and neglected road under the custody of PWD (Roads) for a staggering period of time (28 years). This is not a new phenomenon that citizens residing in the area have had to feel abused and violated for decades.”

“With a lot of hope and confidence, we believe that the legacy of your beloved father shall be regenerated in the goodness of all,” he added.

Meanwhile, the headman also urged the state government to consider shifting of garbage and waste disposal from Jeep Stand to another location with limited or absent human habitation besides repair and timely maintenance of the deteriorated drain from ïewduh to the adjoining locality of Paltan Bazar.
