Shillong, Sept 10: The Meghalaya government and the office of Syiem of Hima Mylliem will appear before the National Commission for Minorities in New Delhi on Wednesday in connection with the Them ïew Mawlong issue.

Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that the State government will be represented by Advocate General, Amit Kumar and the office of the Syiem of Hima Mylliem has also appointed its own counsel for appearing before the Commission.

The Meghalaya government has constituted a High Level Committee to examine all records and documents and recommend feasible solution to solve the pending issue of shifting the settlers from Them Ïew Mawlong.

The Committee is headed by Tynsong.

The Them ïew Mawlong issue is related to the demand to shift settlers from the area following an assault of a bus driver at Them ïew Mawlong on May 31 morning.

The incident led to a violent protest at Motphran and Mawkhar area demanding removal of settlers from the area.

In June this year, National Commission for Minorities (NCM) member, Manjit Singh Rai visited the State and met chief minister, Conrad K. Sangma and discussed about the prevailing situation in Shillong city in view of the demand for finding permanent solution to the issue related to relocating settlers who are staying at Them ïew Mawlong.
