Hek: Govt ready if second wave of COVID strikes

Shillong, Feb 7: BJP leader and minister, A L Hek said that he is the party’s choice for getting inducted into the cabinet of the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government and no arrangement was made for rotating the ministerial berth.

“The Central leaders of the party have told me that I am the leader of the BJP legislature party, and I am their choice for the cabinet berth,” Hek told reporters on Friday.

The five-time MLA from Pynthorumkhrah constituency, however said that he would abide by the decision of the party.

Recently, BJP legislator from South Shillong, Sanbor Shullai stated that the Central leaders of the party have agreed to recommend his name as minister once Hek completed his two-and-a-half years term as minister.

Hek said that according to his knowledge, there has been no such arrangement that there will be a rotation of cabinet berth.

“He (Sanbor) did mention this to the Central leaders, but they told us that it is not the right time to talk about this issue,” he said.

Hek also said that there are no groups within the party in the state.

When asked if there are factions within the state BJP, Hek denied saying, “I know only one group in the party being led by our new state president, Ernest Mawrie. I have no knowledge of any other groups, and we all have elected our party president unanimously.”
